A few weeks ago, I purchased some tickets and a sim card online. ⁣
⁣
As the website had quotes in AUD, I decided to put it on a points-earning credit card, thinking that there will be no extra charge.⁣
⁣
On reconciling my statements, I noticed that an international fee was charged. So I decided to have an online chat with the bank to ask why.⁣
⁣
The bank explained that even though the charge was in AUD, I was charged a foreign transaction fee as the seller was based overseas (hong kong).⁣
⁣
Technically they are right, those are the terms and conditions of using their card... ⁣
⁣
But, I figured why not give it a go and ask if they can reverse the charge as I couldn't have known the location of the merchant that until after the charge was processed.⁣
⁣
Moments later.. the charge was reversed.. and I thanked the chat operator.⁣
⁣
Lessons:⁣
1⃣Check your statements regularly⁣
2⃣No harm in asking⁣
3⃣Being nice to the chat operator may increase your likelihood of a reversal.⁣
⁣
How often do you check your statements? Do you ever try to get a refund/reversal?⁣

Total interest and monthly service fees paid to our mortgage since 26 April 2016.
Working hard to get that monthly interest charge down.
First interest payment 31 May 2016 = $1,095.95
Last interest payment 31 July 2019 = $267.07
Next interest payment, due 31 August 2019 should be closer to $0
Our interest is calculated daily, so we won’t be at $0 interest completely this month, but going forward we should be. It will be such a nice feeling.
Now just to work on the bank removing our monthly $10 Offset Account fee.
Has anyone successfully negotiated the removal of fees before?! I’d love to know your advice.

Grocery haul for this pay fortnight.
$214.10 at Coles
$82.27 at The Source Bulk Foods
$296.37 total
This included our nappies, which always blow the total out. We’ll hopefully only need to do a top up shop next week for more fresh fruit and veg, and dairy for the littles’ evening bottles (they’re not vegan, unlike us). We’re eating largely from the freezer this fortnight as it needs a defrost. Plenty of meals to get us through though, needing only fresh sides each night.
Easy. Quick. Budget friendly.

My two cents about food, jobs, and today's migrant dilemma: Yes, that is feasible. After all, giving them jobs basically means letting them have food on their dining table.
